The Event ....
Welcome to the third annual Health Foundation Row For Cancer. The event will be held on the 6th September 2008 continuing the Sunshine Coast Health Foundation's fundraising campaign to support local cancer patients.
Combining sun, sand and the beautiful Maroochy River the event draws hundreds of competitors from as far away as Townsville to compete in surf boat, outrigger, kayak, ski and scull races for impressive prize money … and a cause that touches us all.
The Cause....
Money raised from the Health Foundation Row for Cancer this year will support the $2 million accommodation facility being built by the Reed Charity Foundation on land owned by the Sunshine Coast Health Foundation. All for the benefit of patients of Nambour Hospital and the Sunshine Coast Cancer Centre.
The Sunshine Coast Health Foundation is a registered local charity, established in 1998 to support the Sunshine Coast's three public hospitals and ancillary services. Foundation operational costs are met by the profits of the multilevel car park at Nambour Hospital.
When complete later this year the impressive building, complete with two communal kitchens, dining and lounge rooms will compliment the community refurbished Cancer Centre which was funded by the Sunshine Coast Health Foundation. The accommodation facility will allow cancer patients, mothers of premature babies, loved ones of patients in the cardiac care and intensive care units to have an affordable accommodation option within meters of Nambour Hospital.
The much needed facility will assist the many patients and their families required to travel to Nambour on a regular basis for treatment and will help relieve the financial burden families and patients occur in these traumatic times.
